7 Secret Anti-Aging Makeup Tips (they’re super easy!)

by Beverly Hills MD

July 23 2018

Sometimes the world of makeup can feel like one big secret, and you’re stuck in a black hole, overwhelmed by reading beauty magazines and blogs with contradicting advice. We’re here to set the record straight. Ready to get filled in on everything you need to know and didn’t realize you missing when it comes to anti-aging makeup tips and tricks?

Here we go, seven tips that will help you look your most beautiful, be it for a trip to the grocery store or a gala event:

1. Eyeliner Stencil

If you’re going for that cat-eye eyeliner look, it can be a nightmare to try to draw a straight line, let alone in the right direction. A pro tip for this is to use a stencil. It can be a piece of paper, tape, or a business card. Position the stencil so that it’s in a straight line from the corner of your eye to the end of your brow. Follow the stencil with your eyeliner. Any wobbly marks are left on the stencil. Voila, you’ve got a clean line, worth of the red carpet.

2. Make Your Eyeshadow Pop

This trick is courtesy of Adele’s makeup artist, so you know you can trust it. Apply foundation that is darker than your natural color to your eyelid before you apply your eyeshadow. It will make the color pop more, making your shadow look more dazzling, even though it’s the same shadow you’ve been using for years.

3. Heat Up Your Lash Curler

When you curl your hair, you don’t do it with a cold brush, so why do we curl our lashes with a cold curler? You’ll get more longevity out of your curl if you add a little heat. Run your eyelash curler under your blow dryer for a few seconds to heat it up — remember to test the heat against your fingers before applying to your lashes — for a dramatic curl that will last all day.

4. Dust Your Under-Eye in Powder

Before you reach for your dark shadows, dust a layer of powder underneath your eyes — enough that it says, “Don’t leave the house looking like this.” It’ll act as a barrier so that if other makeup falls on top of your face, you can dust it away once you’re done with your eyeshadow.

5. Apply Too Much Blush or Foundation?

Anti-Aging Makeup Tips | Beverly Hills MDWe’ve all been there. You think you’re nailing a dramatic look, and then you realize you’ve put on too much blush, bronzer, or foundation. Don’t panic. It’s not time to start over.

Rip a clean cosmetic sponge in half, and use the exposed side to blot up the extra makeup. It’ll absorb it right away, and leave you with a flawless look.

6. Avoid Shimmery Eyeshadow in Your Crease

The reason that we use darker eyeshadow in the crease is that it adds dimension to the eyes. When you use something with sparkle, it reflects light, and that depth and dimension is lost. Look for a darker, matte shade for the ultimate effect.

7. Keep That Mascara from Getting Clumpy

Anti-Aging Makeup Tips | Beverly Hills MDChances are that you should probably be changing your mascara more frequently than you are. In the interim, one way to keep your mascara from clumping is to add a drop or two of eyedrops to the tube. This will even out the consistency until you can pick up a new mascara.

We hope that these tips will help to de-mystify the world of makeup. Once you try these anti-aging makeup tips, let us know what you think!
